  • Q: What to pack?
  • A: Clothing

The general advice here is to be prepared for the worst possible conditions you can expect in your area of travel. If you are going to be hiking, expect it to snow; if you plan to spend several days in a yurt camp, prepare yourself for some rain; and if you have a city tour scheduled, be ready for the heat. We also recommend thinking about the comfort first.

Some things you should not forget are: wide-brimmed hat, several pairs of socks, warm scarf, and waterproof jacket, comfortable footwear.

    Personal care items

Sun protection is an essential in Central Asia. Make sure you add a bottle of sun screen with SPF 30 for every day care and SPF 50 for traveling in the mountains.

Public toilets are a topic of conversation amongst visitors to the country, and represent one area of infrastructure where the Kyrgyz Republic needs to invest. Have a roll of toilet paper and paper towels with you as well as hand sanitizer in your bag.

Even thought some service providers who are used to the needs of the westerners do provide many toiletries, others do not. For example, if you are staying in basic homestays and yurt camps do not expect soap/shampoo or towels to be provided.

    Medication

If you are taking medication for an existing condition, then don’t forget to bring it with you – bring enough for your trip, do not rely on being able to find it here in Kyrgyzstan.  Although many medicines are imported, you cannot rely on them being available, especially in rural regions.

If you are booking a tour with us, please, let us know if you want us to check with a local specialist the medications available.

    Documents

Make sure you have all necessary documents packed. Beside checking passport, insurance, tickets, etc., have a few passport pictures available (especially if you are going to get visas once in CA), passport copies (if possible place them in each suitcase), and a list of contact details that would include both contacts from home and contacts of the travel agents or/and friends/colleagues/relatives you are visiting, embassy of you home-country, and preferably the first accommodation address you are staying at.
