- A: All travelers face some element of risk when abroad – but, for various reasons, women are sometimes at greater risk, especially when travelling alone. Attitudes towards women may be different than at home.
Much of Central Asia is nominally Muslim, but although this means that the lone female traveler can experience discrimination and/or difficulties – the situation in Kyrgyzstan is not as extreme as in many Islamic countries. In many respects, Kyrgyzstan is the most relaxed, liberal and less sexist of the Central Asian countries.
