  • Q: Do I need a visa to Kyrgyzstan?
  • A:

Many visitors to the Kyrgyz Republic require a visa. There are three different visa regimes which operate in the country.

Visa Free Regime: Citizens of certain countries do not need visas. These are citizens from: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Cuba, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia (for 30 days), Moldavia, Mongolia (for 90 days), North Korea, Turkey (for 30 days), Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine (for 90 days), Vietnam Also holders of diplomatic passports from: Austria, Belgium, Canada, China (1 month), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary (1 month), Iceland, Iran (1 month), Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan (1 month), Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkmenistan (1 month), United Kingdom, USA, Uzbekistan (1 month)

Simplified Visa Regime: Citizens of certain countries can receive a visa, valid for one month, from a Kyrgyz consular representation on the basis of a personal application. If the application for a visa is being made at a Kazakh embassy in a country where the Kyrgyz Republic has no diplomatic representation, then an invitation, (registered and approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) is necessary. These are citizens from: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA.

The "Ordinary" Visa Regime: In order to obtain a visa, citizens of all other countries are required to have an invitation - and this involves applying for visa support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bishkek. In addition: In certain cases, the process for receiving approval involves scrutiny by a special commission and can take longer. This applies to citizens of, (but not exclusively): Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates In fact, Kyrgyzstan operates one of the most liberal visa regimes in the former Soviet Union - and probably the most liberal in Central Asia. The biggest problem facing the visitor is likely to be "where to apply" because the number of Kyrgyz embassies and Consular offices is quite small.

Formalities are crucial when planning a trip, please, double check visa issues with your agent.
